While New York City remains the epitome of the modern urban center, much of New York State retains the feel of rural Pennsylvania and many of the Midwestern/Great Lakes states. The strange dichotomy of urban density and rural beauty continue to mark New York as one of the most diverse states; demographically, economically, geographically, and culturally.
